Tests

Whilst creating the motion piece I did many tests to try out different speeds, sizes, colours etc. As I have got a large number of tests I will put these on my development CD to hand in as there is too many tests to post on this blog.

Viral Assets

These are the assets for the documentary part of the motion piece. I made the vector camera based on various images I had found. I took influence from each of the images and created this vector camera. The colours that I chose to use work with the background from the motion and the rest of the campaign.

The top left image was the main influence for the design of the assets to be used in the motion piece. From looking at this image I decided to add a shadow, of a lighter colour,  behind each object to make each of the assets stand out.

This is the text that will deliver the main message of the viral piece. I decided to only use two colours for the assets because from looking at research I came to the conclusion that simpler, minimalistic animations work better and are more successful. I didn't want to over work the campaign by using too many colours. Colour is added to the animation with the use of the patterns that were used in both the posters and the website.

Final Fonts

These are the final fonts that I chose.
The music font represents music as the font does not write on a straight line so it will fit will on the music lines.
The documentary font looks like writing you would get from an old fashioned typewriter.
And the comedy font is fun, bold and the edges aren't straight and restricted.

Idea

So from looking at various after effects animations I have decided that for my viral I am going to stay consistent with the rest of the campaign. The animation is going to be simple and draw attention to the different categories of films that have been entered into the festival in previous years.

The background to the motion piece will be the same that has been used for the posters and the website. The assets will be simple vector objects that will illustrate each category. I will use fonts for each category that will express what each category means.

Viral Ideas

My first inital idea for the viral is to draw peoples attention to the different types of films that can be entered into the film festival, so anything.
I want to do this by making a typography based after effects animation. I have been researching various animations of this sort and below are a few of the best that I like.

What I like about this animation is how the effects that have been used make it look like an old fashioned film. This is done by having the lines either side moving up and down. The transitions between the type is good and smooth as well and the stenciled effect on the type fits in with the style I have used throughout the campaign.

This second animation is also typography based. This animation is a lot faster and has more transitions. The thing that appeals to me about this piece is the animations of the objects that are used to work with the typography and have the link together. I could use this idea and animate objects that are related to films and have been used throughout the campaign. I do not want my animation to be this fast as I want it to be informative to the people watching it.

This is my favourite animation that I have found. What I like about this is the camera movement and how moves around as shows all different perspectives. The animated objects with the type work well animate in time with the music. This is a simple idea but it has high impact. If I was to produce an idea like this one I could use famous film types to relate it to the film festival I am trying to promote.
